John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Reflection:
Love is the heart of the Advent season. It is the love of a Father who sent His Son into the world, not to condemn it, but to save it. This gift of love is unmatched and undeserved—a love so deep that it changes everything.
The birth of Christ is God’s ultimate expression of love. It is a love that reaches us in our brokenness, lifts us up, and restores us. As we reflect on the gift of Jesus, we are reminded that this love is not something to keep to ourselves. We are called to share it—through acts of kindness, words of encouragement, and lives that reflect His grace.
This Advent season, let’s focus on the love that came down to earth and how we can be vessels of that love to those around us. His love changes hearts, mends relationships, and brings hope to the hopeless.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the greatest gift of all—Your love through Jesus Christ. Help me to live out this love in my thoughts, words, and actions. Teach me to love others as You have loved me and to shine Your light in a world that desperately needs it. Amen.
Challenge:
Think of someone in your life who might need to experience God’s love today. Reach out with a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or a simple prayer for them. Let them know they are loved and cherished.
Pop Culture Reference:
For many who watched sports on television in the 1970s and 1980s, John 3:16 may bring to mind Rollen Stewart, also known as the "John 3:16 guy." Often seen at major sporting events holding a sign with this scripture, he became a memorable figure in popular culture. While his life later took a tragic turn, his presence served as a reminder of the enduring power and message of God’s love. You can read more about his story here.
